The Crucifix Patch (also known as the Failsafe USB[1]) was a USB drive in the shape of a crucifix that held the computer patch used to exorcise the Absolute Solver's influence out of a host.
Background[]
The patch was made by a group of JCJenson scientists working in Cabin Fever Labs. It was initially planned to be used on Nori, but the scientists were slaughtered by her before it could be administered, save for the intern Mitchell. Yeva arrived to the scene and threw the USB in Nori's face after the possessed drone attempted to attack Mitchell with it, ridding Nori of the Solver's possession and saving the intern's life.
Yeva's daughter, Doll, sought for the patch so she could use it on herself and Uzi to prevent the Solver from using them to destroy Copper 9.
It was later destroyed by Uzi when she succumbed to the Absolute Solver's influence.
Side Effects[]
When the patch was used on Nori, it caused her mind to be scrambled. This was most likely due to the Solver already controlling her when it was administered. Another possible cause is that her patching wasn't completed, which is shown when "Tessa" scrolls through the list of Solver-infected drones.
Yeva was noted to be 'patched', likely by the same method, giving her more control over her powers without risk of being possessed by the Solver.
Trivia[]
- The USB is shaped like a crucifix, which plays along with the episode's many religious themes.
- A JCJenson employee notice mentions that the Crucifix Patch contains 606b[1], which may be a variant of wdOS_606, a core termination program designed to decommission Worker Drones. So instead of destroying the Drone, it destroys the Solver inside the Drone (whilst letting them keep their powers).
- It's likely the Crucifix Patch's name is a play on words, with it being a literal USB patch that can 'fix' a drone's solver infection, also playing into Murder Drones having common religious themes.
