Khan Doorman is a Worker Drone

Khan Doorman is a male

"Bad crowd, those Murder Drones. Destroying ways off the planet, my wife, my daughter having interests beyond cannibalism and... "nightcore"? It's the end times! If my wife's closet is right, the planet's gonna try to eat us soon."

―Khan explaining the plan to Lizzy and Thad in Mass Destruction

Overview

Khan Doorman is a supporting character in Murder Drones. He is the father of Uzi Doorman, the previous estranged husband of Nori Doorman and the inventor of the blast doors that kept the colony safe from Disassembly Drones.

Physical Appearance[]

Khan is a Worker Drone with white eyes and a fake black mustache, alongside wrinkles on his visor. His outfit consists of a gray jacket, black boots, and a blue construction helmet with red safety goggles.

Personality[]

Khan wishes to keep the colony safe with as little bloodshed as possible. He also seems to have developed trauma from encountering the Murder Drones, refusing to arm the Worker Defense Force in favor of fortified doors. His pacifist way of thinking clashes with his daughter Uzi's aggressive and forward tactics; upon spotting N, Khan refuses to pick up her railgun, instead shutting the blast doors from her. This trauma is most likely from him having to put his wife "out of her misery" when a Disassembly Drone fatally wounded her with their Nanite Acid.

He is hugely obsessed with using doors as the solution to any Disassembly Drone attack, proposing that he and the WDF build a quick door even though V and J have already broken inside. His obsession with doors may have originated from Nori repeatedly telling him to "build doors against the coming sky demons."

Khan's relationship with his daughter is strained. The numerous posters around Outpost 3 show Khan deeming Uzi a "disappointment" and claiming that his doors are his real legacy. However, Khan still loves and cares for Uzi despite their strained relationship and is attempting to mend things. He also notes that Uzi is on "that kill-all-humans kick" like when he was younger. This is possibly indicative that Khan, at some point, had a drive to kill humans, though what altered his personality away from this is unknown.

As shown in The Promening, Khan is trying to become a better father, bringing Uzi to prom and to have fun and convincing her teacher to have Lizzy and Doll help her dress up for the occasion. Khan also tries to help Uzi during her fight with Doll and warmly smiles when he hears her speech to Doll. He even tries to help her after Doll attacks, but Doll locks the door before he can enter. Khan later admitted that he wasn't the one his wife or Uzi needed to protect them, showing that he regrets leaving Uzi for dead and his cowardly nature. Khan and Uzi appear to have reconciled following Cabin Fever and Home. In Mass Destruction, it's implied he is trying to get over his cowardly nature as he has built himself a railgun based off Uzi's blueprints, and is trying to at least help in fighting to save the planet.

Biography[]

Season 1[]

PILOT[]

Khan is first introduced in a poster as he becomes the subject of a conversation between Thad and Uzi. He physically appears when he stops Uzi from leaving the bunker to travel to the corpse spire for her railgun parts. After Uzi tries to give a terrible excuse for where she's heading, Khan gives a hearty laugh before asking her again, more seriously this time. Uzi lies again, stating that she wants to measure the exteriors of Door 1. She also says she wishes to join the Worker Defense Force, taking a jab at the organization by describing it as "hide behind doors like cowards while playing cards and stuff". Khan denies it, only to be immediately proven wrong as the blast door behind him opens to Makarov asking him to grab a fresh pack of cards, as it is the only thing they do — to the point where the numbers have faded.

Khan closes the blast door and argues that when he "build[s] doors so good," there is no need to fight. Nonetheless, he agrees to let Uzi outside, giving her a wrench that he used to tighten the bolts on his first door prototypes and to put her mother out of her misery when she was fatally injured with a Disassembly Drone's Nanite Acid. Khan then shows her to the others and proudly announces she is "into doors" before opening Door 1 to let her outside. As she leaves, Khan pulls off his mustache and uses it to wipe his tears, uttering that Uzi grows up so fast.

Later, after Uzi accidentally leads N to the bunker, Khan walks in on all of his friends dead while the doors are left wide open. As he questions what Uzi has done, N ambushes the two, making her drop her railgun and slide to Khan's feet. Uzi begs Khan to shoot him, but his cowardice prevents him from doing so, ultimately deciding to close the blast doors and leave Uzi for dead to save the rest of the colony.

Near the end, after Uzi and N team up to fight off V and J, the evacuated Worker Drones cheer for them, only for Khan to clear his throat, silencing everyone as he approaches out of the crowd. Uzi doesn't take this kindly, as she throws his wrench on the floor, revealing that she never intended to lead the Disassembly Drones to the bunker and that he chose to leave her for dead. She saves him the trouble and banishes herself from the colony, running away with N and a captive V. Khan stares awkwardly and contemplates as he sips from a "#1 DAD" mug.

Heartbeat[]

Khan attends the parent-teacher conference where Uzi's teacher tells him she has been absent. Khan dismisses it, affirming that she is on that "kill all humans" kick like when he was younger and that she grounded herself. He then assumes that Uzi is "precocious," "popular," and has a "supernatural understanding of doors." The teacher then reveals that she is the opposite of his vision of her and presumes that she has damaged programming, which Khan does not take well. While he tries to make sense of things, Sarah interrupts their conversation, informing Khan of Frank's demise. Khan questions if Uzi's behavior was his fault, then lashes out at the teacher for suggesting that she has damaged programming, threatening to install a door on his face.

Afterward, Khan, with a search party, rushes to the Cryosleep chamber after Uzi and N's battle with Eldritch J. He sees Uzi standing still with her head down as she silently staggers towards him. She then runs up and hugs him. Khan, though confused, hugs back and comforts her as he gestures to the other Worker Drones to search the scene. He looks up and spots N cowering at them in the ceiling before fleeing, as Khan stares back in anger.

The Promening[]

While Uzi is away at school, Khan takes the "crazed ramblings" she made in her room and stores them in Nori's closet. As he walks away, whistling to himself, he spots Uzi in the corner, startled by her appearance. She storms up to him, yelling that her crazed ramblings are hers only and to stay out of her room. Khan explains that "personal space for a very alarming coping mechanism isn't covered under a non-optional family support structure" as he read from a manual. Uzi dismisses him, telling him that he was never there for her and that the only way to help now is to stay distant. As she tries to leave to talk to N, however, she gets stopped by a skeleton of a child in a dress. Questioning it, Khan reveals that it is her prom dress and that she's grounded from seeing her newly befriended Disassembly Drones. He also talked to her teacher to find classmates to go with her as he chaperoned her, which she detested and screamed.

In the prom, Khan nervously looks around for Uzi, seeing no sign of her. As he becomes more uneasy, Lizzy interrupts prom and explains that since all of the prom candidates "mysteriously" disappeared, the default winner is V. Even after Lizzy explains that she became friends with V and the crowd accepts her, Khan tries to escape, only to discover that Doll has locked the doors.

Just as V prepares her speech, Uzi and N barge in from the ceiling. While dumbfounded at what's happening, Doll attacks, neglecting the doors as they open with everyone escaping, pushing out Khan in the process. Doll questions why Uzi is siding with the Disassembly Drones, and Uzi defends them, saying that whoever started this mess wants them to go against each other and that she is tired of working alone, to which Khan smiles at her. Despite her speech, Doll rejects her offer and charges at them. This time, Khan tries to help, running back to the gym, only for Doll to stop him as she shuts the doors again.

Cabin Fever[]

Khan shows pictures of Nori to Uzi and explains that when he met Nori, he never noticed her or Yeva's collars, only her being a catch. He then reveals her closet full of insane ramblings, with papers containing drawings of her visions of "sky demons" and a "singularity", also showing off a Cool S she can draw. He sighs and tells Uzi to stay safe before she leaves for her camping trip.

Home[]

Uzi successfully gains a connection with N in his memories, but not long before she gets interrupted by Khan entering her room. He states that he is just surprised as she has never had friends over before, to which Uzi asserts that it is not a sleepover, shutting the door in his face.

While the memories get hijacked, Uzi goes back into reality once again as Khan enters her bedroom for a second time, asking if she invited Doll over before he gets flung outside by her. After Doll successfully takes Uzi's keybug, she tells Khan that he raised a good daughter. Khan, pinned to a wall, adds that despite his neglect, she still turned out to be great.

Mass Destruction[]

At some point during the events of Dead End, Khan went through Nori's closet and Uzi's bedroom, grabbing a blueprint for the latter's railgun and rebuilding it. He then left the bunker, meeting up with Thad and Lizzy along the way.

They end up at the corpse spire, where Khan checks the perimeters and goes on a rant on the Disassembly Drones, calling them a "bad crowd" for destroying the planet and "killing" his wife, also blaming them for his daughter "having interests beyond cannibalism and nightcore". He then says that according to Nori's closet, the planet is likely going to eat them soon, being the reason for his sudden change in demeanor and cognitive thinking. The three follow J, with Khan driving the school bus to chase after her, ready to confront her.

Absolute End[]

Khan is seen with Thad and Lizzy about to fall off a piece of land that ripped off of Copper 9. They get aimed at by J's RPG. After J fires the gun, V's Sentinel picks up the rocket to save Khan, Thad and Lizzy. After that, Khan stares at V's Sentinel hitting Lizzy.

Khan, along with Thad and Lizzy fall off the piece of land and Khan begins to T-pose while floating in space and then tries to move away. Khan isn't seen again until he thwarts Cyn's attempt to eat N's heart by using his remote to close the door behind her, severing a few of her tentacles and making lose grip on N's heart, laughing at her afterwards. A couple of scenes later, Khan tries to climb back to the surface of the planet while the atmosphere is completely red. Then Lizzy's phone falls onto his hard hat. He nearly falls down into the abyss, but thanks to Nori using her Solver, she pulls Khan back up. Nori then sees her husband (Khan), and tells him that she doesn't know him and runs away into the red fog.

Back at the school during Uzi's class presentation, Khan is seen right outside the classroom door, and Uzi uses her Solver to make Khan disappear.

Trivia[]

  • He and his team play cards so much that the numbers on the cards have worn out. Khan keeps at least one spare deck in the colony for this occasion.
  • Inside his office, he has various items, including:
    • Post-It notes saying "doors > Uzi", "DOORS <3", "TO DO: [...] GRUMPY [...] APPOINTED", "NEW IDEA: monthly subscription-based doors?"
    • A photograph of himself, Uzi as a baby, and his wife Nori, although the latter's face has been damaged by what appears to be Nanite Acid.
    • Several schematics and blueprints for doors.
    • A "CERTIFICATE OF BEST DOOR".
  • His name, Khan, is a title given to rulers and officials in central Asia, Afghanistan, and certain other Muslim countries.
  • His surname "Doorman" (and its translation "Portero" in the Spanish dub) is an antiquated word for a bouncer or bellhop who mans the front door of an establishment.
    • In the series, it is a joke about his obsession with doors.
  • His concept art shows him holding a gun, and a joke poster by Liam Vickers states that he has "beaten someone to death with a wrench." The poster also implies he is guilty of tax evasion, though this has not been mentioned in the series yet.[1]
  • As revealed at the live showing of Episode 2 in Los Angeles, Khan was originally intended to be the show's main antagonist, but this was changed early in development.
  • Khan seems to be more involved in Uzi's life, being aware of her emerging tendencies, this is evident when he points out her "interests beyond cannibalism" in Mass Destruction (referencing her violent rampage at Camp 98.7 when she slaughtered and ate her classmates).
